The purpose of this study was to examine the strategic role of digital emotional intelligence in curbing burnout and digital fatigue (case study: employees of sports organizations in the country).Given the prominent role of new technologies in work environments, the importance of employees' ability to manage digital emotions and its effect on occupational and psychological outcomes was addressed as a novel issue. The present study used a mixed-methods approach and was conducted in two qualitative and quantitative parts. In the qualitative part, thematic analysis was utilized. For this purpose, 18 senior managers, digital media experts, and sports management professors were selected through purposive and criterion-based sampling, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with them. In the quantitative part, a questionnaire was developed based on the qualitative findings. The statistical population of the quantitative part included all employees of the country's sports organizations, from which 380 individuals were selected by proportional stratified random sampling based on the Krejcie and Morgan table. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling based on partial least squares. The qualitative analysis led to the presentation of a comprehensive conceptual framework. Digital emotional intelligence was identified in five dimensions (digital self-awareness, digital self-management, digital social awareness, digital relationship management, and digital adaptability). Job burnout was conceptualized in three dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment), and digital fatigue was also conceptualized in five dimensions (cognitive, emotional, physical, and behavioral fatigue, and communication overload). The results showed that the path coefficients between digital emotional intelligence and the two dependent variables are negative and significant, such that an increase in the level of digital emotional intelligence leads to a decrease in employees' job burnout and digital fatigue. The model's goodness-of-fit indices (R², Q², and GOF) were also obtained at desirable levels, and the reliability and validity of the instruments were confirmed. Overall, the results indicate that the development of digital emotional intelligence skills in sports organizations can be an effective factor in reducing psychological pressures and enhancing employee performance.
