English

Introduction: Today, in the world, the media induce thoughts, culture and behavior, and in fact, the cultural identity of humans. The issue of identity is one of the most important and challenging issues in the life of every human being. Social identity is one of the most important aspects of identity that the use of media can have different effects on. Media literacy is also a new form of literacy that humans need for life. In this study, the effectiveness of media training on the psychological media literacy and social identity of adolescents was investigated.
Method: The research method was semi-experimental in the form of a two-group pre-test-post-test design and the statistical population was high school students. 60 students were placed in two experimental and control groups (30 girls and 30 boys in each group) by random sampling and replacement. The experimental group (15 girls and 15 boys) was trained for 8 weeks, one session of 90 minutes per week, using the educational package made by the researcher on psychological literacy of media and virtual space. The research tool was the psychological literacy questionnaire of media and virtual space (made by the researcher) and the social identity scale (Safarinia and Roshan, 2018). The data was analyzed with spss23.
Results: The results showed that media education has a significant impact on students' media literacy and social identity.
Discussion and conclusion: Considering the effective role of media education in promoting media literacy and the social identity status of adolescents, media literacy education is suggested as an efficient method to promote psychosocial indicators, including adolescents' social identity.
